The studio

A small team. A considered way of building.

Paste Renovations is a Toronto-based renovation studio. We take on a handful of projects at a time so each one gets the attention it deserves.

Our story

Built around the renovations we wanted to deliver.

Paste was started by tradespeople who'd spent enough years on large, mismanaged renovation jobsites to know exactly what they didn't want their company to be. We wanted small. We wanted considered. We wanted the kind of practice where the people quoting the work were the people running it.

Today we operate as a tight studio with a core crew, a network of long-standing trades, and a project load that's deliberately kept modest. We work primarily across Toronto, focused on residential renovations from single rooms to whole homes.

What hasn't changed is the philosophy: take fewer projects, do each one well, and treat every house like it's the only one we have.

Values

Six principles we actually run on.

These aren't slogans on a wall. They show up in how we price, how we schedule, and what we won't compromise.

No. 01

Quiet over loud

Good renovations don't announce themselves. They feel right. We design and build for longevity and calm, not viral reels.

No. 02

Plan more, build smoother

Most renovation pain happens because the planning was rushed. We spend extra time before tools come out so the build runs clean.

No. 03

Honest scope, honest price

If a job has unknowns, we say so. If a finish is going to push a budget, we tell you before the order is placed.

No. 04

The crew is the company

Our crew is our work. We hire carefully, pay properly, and protect their conditions. The renovation you receive depends on it.

No. 05

Clean site, clean handover

Daily tidy-up. Containment plastic for dust. Walk-paths protected. At the end, the house is left better than how the renovation started.

No. 06

Stand behind the work

Our workmanship is warrantied in writing. If we built it and it's failing, we come back.

What sets us apart

Not every renovator. Not for every job.

A renovation studio is a specific kind of contractor. Here's what that means in practice, and how we differ from a typical renovation outfit.

One

Small portfolio, deep attention

We don't run ten jobs at once. Our load is sized so that the person who quoted your renovation is on your site, on the phone, and answering when you ask.

Two

Design-aware, not design-arrogant

We can lead the design, work to a designer's spec, or build from an architect's drawings. We won't override design intent without asking, and we won't pretend a plan works when it doesn't.

Three

Permit and code, taken seriously

We pull permits where they're required. We treat inspections as quality checks, not paperwork. Your renovation should pass the next owner's inspection a decade from now.

Four

Communication on a schedule

Weekly project updates, change orders in writing, decisions logged. You shouldn't have to chase your contractor to know what's happening in your own house.

Five

Trades we work with, not against

Our plumbers, electricians, and finishers have a stake in our reputation. They're paid on time, scheduled fairly, and rotated so they're never burned out on your job.

Six

Heritage-friendly

Many of the older homes in our service area need a contractor who can navigate balloon framing, knob-and-tube, lath-and-plaster, and Toronto's heritage rules. That's a regular part of our work.

Team philosophy

The people on the job are the job.

There's no abstract corporate layer between you and the crew. The person you meet on day one is the person managing your renovation on day ninety. The trades who come through your house are people we've worked with for years, paid fairly, and held to the same standard we hold ourselves.

That's how a renovation gets quiet competence instead of chaos. It's not a marketing line. It's a staffing model.
